Selling Handmade Goods on Facebook Marketplace: Fees, Listings and Safety

Facebook Marketplace is one of the easiest places for a garage maker to find local buyers. Listings are quick, buyers are nearby, and there is no store to build. It works best for larger items that are costly to ship, like furniture, planters, game boards and pet beds.

What It Costs

As of October 2026, one reseller guide reports that local pickup sales carry no selling fee, while shipped orders paid through Marketplace checkout carry a 10% selling fee with an $0.80 minimum (up from 5% in 2025). Meta can change fees and rules, so confirm the current terms in the seller help inside Facebook before you rely on these numbers.

Make Listings That Sell

  • Use bright, natural-light photos from several angles, including a close-up of the finish and something for scale.
  • Put the main keyword first in the title, such as “Handmade cedar planter box, 24 inch.”
  • State size, materials and whether you take custom orders.
  • Price at a level that covers materials and time; our handmade pricing formula can help.
  • Answer messages quickly; speed often decides the sale.

Stay Safe on Local Pickup

Meet in a public place for small items, or have buyers collect larger items from a spot outside your home such as the driveway, with someone else present. Be cautious with overpayment stories, requests to move to another app, and payment links. Keep communication and payment inside Marketplace where possible so there is a record. Do not give out your address until you are comfortable.

Use It Alongside Other Channels

Marketplace is a good test bed: see which items get messages, then list the best sellers on Etsy or take them to craft fairs. Add your business name to listings and tell buyers where to find your other work. Ask happy buyers for reviews as covered in our post on honest customer reviews.

Remember Taxes and Local Rules

Income from Marketplace sales counts as business income, and sales tax rules depend on your state. See our sales tax basics post and check with your state. Keep a record of each sale.
